The chalice was a gift for John Paul II from the President of Senegal, Abdou Dioufan, presented to the Holy Father during his pilgrimage to Senegal from 19 February to 23 February 1992.more
The chalice foot has the plan of the circle, in the form of a truncated cone, divided radially into fields, which are filled with a motif of stylized filigree volute openwork. The nodus has the shape of a ball, smooth, with an engraved isosceles cross. The goblet is squat, semicircular, with a repetitive motif of chalice foot decoration, finished with a smooth rim.
The paten is round, with a monogram cross in a round medallion, in the centre of the mirror, which is enclosed by a gloria in the shape of flower petals, the whole is filled with filigree. The collar is divided into fields, filled with decorations with the same motif as on the chalice foot and the goblet part.
