Exhibits like this are rarely seen in Polish museums. This beautifully ornamented, obviously black hearse dates back to the late 19th century. Its owner put it up for sale in Bęczarka, a village located 20 km from Dobczyce. One of the residents of Dobczyce bought it and donated it to the local Regional Museum.
Due to the substantial size of the gift, a new room had to be prepared to accommodate it. This marked the beginning of a unique collection in Dobczyce connected with local funeral customs. The objects collected here, like the ornamented candlesticks, funeral flags, liturgical garments, and texts of old funeral songs, were formerly used in past funerals.
The hearse constitutes the central point of the collection. It is made of wood, with carved metal elements. In the corners, there are four silver angels and at the top there is a figure of a kneeling angel. In the front, there is a tall seat for the coachman.
