The Coronet Midget is a miniature 16 mm film camera, with frame format of 13 x 18 cm, produced in 1935 by the Coronet Camera Company from Birmingham (Great Britain). The camera is equipped with a Taylor Hobson lens.
In the mid-1930s in Great Britain, a few models of cameras appeared on the market with extremely small sizes, bearing the name “Midget” (dwarf). They used atypical photographic materials of a small width (10–20 mm), without perforations on the edges. These cameras, of an extremely simplified construction, with single-lenticular lenses, were distinguished by a decorative form of casing.
The body of the apparatus, cast from black bakelite, has a decorative (originally chrome-plated) brass plate, which is engraved and covered in the following black lacquer inscriptions: “CORONET/MIDGET/16 M/M FILM/MADE BY THE CORONET/CAMERA CO. BIRMINGHAM/BRITISH PATENTS APPLIED FOR/DESIGN REGISTERED.”
In the upper part, a relatively large telescope viewfinder was placed, which enabled the comfortable framing of the image. This was not needed to set the distance (fixed focus lens). The picture was taken by pressing the lever on the side of the camera, which moved the film according to the direction of the arrow on the knob.
