The sculpture Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane is a depiction of the time when Jesus prayed on the Mount of Olives, just before he was taken captive. It may have been a fragment of a non-preserved composition showing Christ praying in the company of the sleeping apostles and an angel with a cup of bitterness, heralding future suffering.

The sculpture shows Christ with hands folded, gazing forward and kneeling on a base covered with foliage. The face has a natural complexion and his long brown hair falls on his back. Christ is dressed in a red robe, girded with a brown belt, with bare feet protruding from under the folds of his garment.

The form of this small sculpture draws attention: the slender profile of the figure, shrunken head, hands shown as semi-circles without visible elbows. The longitudinal base on which Jesus is kneeling stands on four legs.
