The portrait was purchased in Cairo by soldiers of the Polish Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade during WW II. The face of the man is oval-shaped, with almond-like eyes with marked pupils, lashes and bushy eyebrows. He has a long moustache and a black beard encircling his face. His head is decorated with a narrow wreath of pink flowers, the petals of which were attached separately. Such details as hair and a hairstyle allow the portrait to be dated back to the reign of Hadrian — the 2nd–3rd century AD.
