Both of the bottles were intended for the fragrances of the Paris perfumery L.T. Piver, which was established in 1774 and operates successfully to this day.
The first, taller bottle with a stopper in the shape of a glass bevelled ball was designed for a cologne with the romantic name La Reine des Fleurs [French Queen of Flowers]. This is the very fragrance that kick-started the the well-known Parisian company. On the neck, there is a small strip of paper label with an inscription which, unfortunately, is illegible (the initials of a first name and a last name). A large paper label with the inscription “VÉRITABLE EAU DE COLOGNE / A La Reine des Fleurs / L.T. PIVER / 1774” has been preserved very well on the vessel’s body, making it possible to identify the brand and the name of the fragrance. Below, a colourful graphic showing a yellow cock with outspread wings and putti holding laurel branches flanking it, is visible. The composition is framed at the bottom by a flowery festoon with a ribbon. Under the graphic, there is an inscription “Marque Française / Déposée,” the initials and the last name: L.T. Piver, “Paris” and the address: “10, Boul d de Strasbourg.”
The second bottle has been designed in the shape of a rectangular decanter with bulges on the walls. The body smoothly turns into a wide neck, into which a bevelled glass stopper has been plugged. A strip of a paper label with the inscription “L.T. PIVER” has been situated on the neck. On the body, meanwhile - there is a paper label in the form of a cartouche with a white inscription “AVENTURINE / L.T. PIVER / PARIS” on a red background, framed by greenish ornaments with navy blue accents.
